The New Zealand Film Festival Trust and the South Australian Film Corporation present low budget feature makers Kriv Stenders and Kristian Moliere, for a day-long workshop and information session.
This workshop is designed to examine the low-budget digital feature filmmaking process from both a creative and practical point of view. Their feature film Boxing Day (playing in the Auckland and Wellington Showcase), written, directed and shot by Kriv and produced by Kristian, will be analysed as a practical model of the low-budget process that is becoming more and more accessible to the film industry.
Using Boxing Day, as the prime template, the workshop will examine the various production stages and creative processes involved in the making of the film from conception right through to the film’s final distribution and marketing. The workshop is designed to give filmmakers a realistic and pragmatic perspective on the options currently available. Over the course of the day, workshop participants will learn to think more laterally not only about the mechanics of low-budget digital production and distribution but also about new, innovative ways of creating, writing, and directing compelling stories for the screen.
Chairing the workshop will be ex Melbourne International Film Festival and Australian Film Institute director, James Hewison, aided by Michael Wrenn, previously of the New Zealand Film Commission and now working as a producer and acquisitions scout for Maximum Films across Australia and New Zealand.
This workshop is sponsored by the NZFC keeping tickets to a manageable $25 per attendee. Light refreshments will also be provided. For further details or to reserve your place, please contact Michael Wrenn at michaelwrenn@firesign.co.nz or the festival office on showcase@nzff.co.nz
